Resting Metabolic
Rate Testing
The MedGem®
device uses a
simple breath test to measure the amount of
oxygen consumed, to determine resting metabolic rate (RMR).
The MedGem®
device allows
your dietitian to establish a calorie recommendation
based upon your unique RMR. This service can be provided
at your initial consultation for a small fee. Please
come to your visit fasting (nothing to eat for 10
hours prior to the visit, water is ok).

Katie
Doran Filkins, RD, owner of Boulder Nutrition & Exercise
Services, has worked in
the community and clinical setting teaching nutrition
and exercise. Originally a professional dancer, she
moved to Boulder from NYC in 2003. She attained her
undergraduate degree in Nutrition and Food Science from
Hunter College. Her graduate work and internship was
completed through University of Northern Colorado,
awarding her degree as a Registered Dietitian. Using a
compassionate approach as a coach, she leads her clients
to success as they define it.
The word diet comes from the Latin word: diaeta, which
means "a way of life". Her passion for food and fueling
the body will help you attain the "way of life" you
deserve.
Suzanne
Junered, RD, pursued her interest of nutrition in her
home state of Tennessee, receiving her Bachelor of
Science degree at the University of Tennessee and
completing her Dietetic Internship at Vanderbilt
University Medical Center to become a Registered
Dietitian. She then moved to Colorado in 2004 for some
fun and to focus on her career.
Suzanne has worked in various settings, including
assisting clinical research and acting as a renal
dietitian to help treat individuals with kidney disease.
She currently spends part of her time providing
nutrition education in a corporate wellness program and
at the YMCA. Suzanne has been with Boulder Nutrition and
Exercise Services since 2007 and has been successful in
providing education and meeting goals in clients with
diabetes, weight loss, high blood pressure and
cholesterol, kidney disease, and other nutritional
needs. She also has a special interest in and has
developed skills to help people who have
gastrointestinal disorders and food intolerances.
Suzanne enjoys the Colorado outdoors by hiking, skiing,
snowshoeing, taking bicycle rides, and walking with her
dog. In 2008 Suzanne completed her first sprint
triathlon. From this experience she decided to become a
Certified Personal Trainer in order to better support
and coach others in their fitness goals.
Food
is both powerful in the human body and satisfying to the
taste and to the mind. Suzanne will help motivate you to
appreciate the effects that diet can have on your body
while enjoying the foods you eat. As Hippocrates said,
"Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be
your food
